Rousseau Island, in French named L'Ile Rousseau is a small park and island in the middle of the Rhone River, in the very center of Geneva, connected by the bridge Pont des Bergues to both river banks. Island Rousseau is named after the famous philosopher and writer Jean-Jacques Rousseau, who spent part of his life in Geneva. His statue dominates the island.

Café, Restaurant and Wine Bar
L'Ile Rousseau is a popular relaxing point for locals, coming here on a lunch break during the sunny days to have a sandwich and café in small snack & tea shop - Pavillon de l'Ile Rousseau. Offering wine, tea, café, simple snacks such as sandwitches and baguettes, but also salads and paninis and as a dessert ice creams and cakes.

Atmosphere
Rousseau Island is a quite tranquil place to have a break in the mids of sightseeing. Have a sit on the bench and enjoy the great wiews over the center of Geneva, river, lake and fountain, especially beautiful with the night lights reflecting from the water surface.

Rousseau Island's banks are grateful haven for swans and ducks and families with kids like to feed them with little breadcrumps and enjoy their beauty. However there is no direct access to the river, for safety reasons - the fence encircles the whole island. Land of Island is covered by gravel, not grass.

There is a drinking water spring on the Rousseau island.

Dogs, even on the leash, are prohibited.

Around Rousseau Island
-> Overseeing Rousseau Island is Des Bergues Four Season Hotel, the most luxurious hotel in the city. The legend has it that hotel bough this island, in order to maintain a control over the noise situation here, as cultural events sometimes take place here.
-> On neighboring bridge down the Rhône, Pont de la Machine, is a Geneva Tourist Office and Cite du Temps - come here to see Swatch permanent exposition, gallery or have a lunch in modern restaurant.
-> Just south from the bridge is Prom. du lac, where is apart form trendy Restaurant also port for small yellow boats - Mouettes, going under the bridge to Paquis port.
