Cornavin Hotel, Geneva
Ever since Tintin and Haddock stayed in the hotel, back in 1956, in Herge’s The Calculus Affair, the Hotel Cornavin has become a favoured destination for busy travellers and Tintin aficionados. Near the entrance, you’ll see life-size mannequins of Tintin and his dog Snowy.
The hotel is equally famous for showcasing the world largest mechanical clock, securely attached on the 9th floor, with giant pendulums falling down to the ground floor.
The glass elevator and bay windows greatly contribute to the panorama and feel of looming over the city.
Rooms
The 164 rooms, spread through 9 floors, benefit from a spectacular view over the Geneva rooftops, lake and Jet d’Eau. Three types of room are available for guests: single, double and triple.
Ranging from CHF 200 (€ 202) to CHF 400 (€ 404), the four star hotel is one of the best value for money places to stay in Geneva.
All carefully designed modern rooms have a bathtub, satellite TV, air conditioning, safe and minibar.
Location
A great location, at the heart of Rive Droite, the Cornavin Hotel overhangs the city’s main station and Basilica Notre-Dame of Geneva. The hotel’s front revolving doors are literally 30 seconds away from the Cornavin Station, 1 minute from the platforms, perfect for those who wish to simply hop on and off a train.
Being near the train station, at the center of the bus and tram network, you can easily access all of Geneva’s hotspots (shopping streets, lake, Old Town, UN Office...).
Dining
A large breakfast room located on the 8th floor offers a panoramic view on Geneva, from the Basilica Notre-Dame to the far away Salève Mountain. There’s nothing like enjoying a coffee and nice croissant above town.
Bar
A small lounge bar is located next to the reception, a great opportunity to relax while enjoying a cocktail after a busy day.
Facilities
A complimentary fitness is open 24/7 for tireless businessmen and there is a sauna for those who aren’t as athletic. The hotel also has free wifi, dry cleaning, laundry, shoe polishing and 2 meeting rooms with daylight.
The Cornavin Station parking is only 2 minutes away or else, you can park your car in the nearby Grottes area, a cheaper option. Upon arrival, guests are given a card for all public transport in Geneva free of charge.
Overall
The Hotel Cornavin is the right mix of popular culture, good location and great value for money. It is a safe pick for visitors who wish to stay near the station all the while remaining at close distance from all of Geneva’s main tourist attractions.
Tips
Don’t try replaying the scene where Haddock bulges through the revolving doors, you might hurt yourself.
